Amplifying Community Voices
ACOSH engages with a wide range of community stakeholders to support our advocacy goals, including schools, small businesses, health providers and other organisations directly affected by the harms of tobacco, vaping and nicotine products. We provide platforms to amplify community voices on legislative and regulatory changes, capturing public sentiment and the specific needs of priority populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Advocacy for Priority Populations
Our work includes advocating for Smoke-Free Prisons and increasing accessibility to nicotine-replacement therapy (NRT) and cessation support for low-income earners and other priority populations. By focusing on the communities most affected by tobacco and vaping, we aim to reduce inequities and improve health outcomes.
Centring the Human Cost
Central to ACOSH’s community focused approach is highlighting the human cost of tobacco and nicotine products. Media reporting, policy discussions, and advocacy efforts must never lose sight of the harm tobacco and nicotine products inflict on our health and our communities. We emphasise the importance of public health promotion campaigns to prevent people, particularly young people, from taking up smoking and vaping.
